Obituary of Leon Martin Cackowski Jr.

Leon Martin Cackowski, Jr., 72 of Graniteville, passed away on September 13, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Ronan for over 40 years; loving father of Ryan Cackowski and his wife, Ashley Palumbo Cackowski, Austin Cackowski (AJ); cherished Grandfather of Lena Rae Cackowski; brother of Martin Cackowski and his wife, Louise; brother of Melanie Cackowski; he was pre-deceased in death by his brother, Richard Cackowski; loving brother-in-law of Maureen Kerwin and a devoted uncle. He enjoyed his relationships with his many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Cackowski was a life-long Staten Islander, born and raised in Sunnyside and graduated from Curtis High School in 1968. Shortly after graduation he entered the Navy and was stationed in Long Beach, California and served aboard the U.S.S. SOMERS. After having survived 3 tours of action in Vietnam, he was Honorably discharged in 1974. He has been attending the USS SOMERS reunions for many years and seeing his old friends. He began his working career as an electronics technician with the firm of AAT Communications, retiring from there in 2016 as a manager. He also worked as a coordinator for the Board of Elections and enjoyed helping out when needed at AAT. During his spare time, Leon was an avid fisherman, and hunter, belonging to the Staten Island Outdoorsman Club, with a house up in the Adirondacks where he spent many hours enjoying life in the woods with good friends. He also decided to, and enjoyed immensely, creating his Family Tree. This was a priority in his life and he spent hours locating his ancestors. Funeral will be from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday September 17, 2022, departing at 10:45 for interment at Ocean View Cemetery, Amboy Road, Staten Island. Family and friends may visit on Friday, September 16th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
