Obituary of Deacon Dennis A. Da Costa

Deacon Dennis A. Da Costa, 91, passed away on September 27, 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Una (2003); loving father of Theresa Guzman-Slaughter and her husband Anthony, and Fr. Darrell Da Costa (Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church); cherished grandfather of Christopher, Daniel, Steven, and Azizsa, also Tasha and her husband Kenny and Tony, Jr.; dear brother of the late Pat and late Gandy; faithful Catholic Deacon to countless numbers of parishioners of St. Matthew’s R.C. Church in Brooklyn. Deacon Dennis was a man of God – first and foremost. He was born in Jamaica, West Indies, and came to America with a dollar in his pocket and a dream. He served his new country as a U.S. Marine proudly. He worked very hard, became a homeowner twice, and put his children through private school, working nights as a foreman for Anderson Tool and Dye. He enjoyed painting, cooking, his dogs, and classical music. He dedicated most of his time to serving God and God’s people. His goal was to ensure the well-being of his family and ensuring closeness to the Lord. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, 10/1, departing at 8:45 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Adalbert’s R.C. Church (337 Morningstar Road, Staten Island, NY 10303) at 9:30 am. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery (3620 Tilden Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11203). Family and friends may visit on Friday, 9/30, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
