Obituary of Carmen L. Ortiz-Pesantez
Carmen L. Ortiz Pesantez, 96, of Staten Island, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on September 26, 2022. She is predeceased by her husband Jacinto E. Ortiz and her two children Cesar E. Ortiz and Rosa C. Ortiz. She is survived by her children, Gerardo and his wife Bruna, Azucena, Eugenio and his wife Yolanda, Eddy and his wife Maureen. She leaves behind ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Carmen was born on March 27, 1926 in Cuenca, Ecuador. In her young age of 16, she met her husband at his family’s leather factory she worked at. She caught the owners sons eye and they fell in love. They wed shortly after that and welcomed a family. She became a home maker and loved her life as a mother and wife. Together they welcomed 6 children and built their dream home in Quito, Ecuador. In 1991 they followed their two children's footsteps and came to the USA and settled in Staten Island, NY.
She loved going back to her beloved Ecuador to visit her children and friends. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, lottery, watching Spanish soap operas and listening to her favorite music. She loved cooking her family native home-cooked meals. Her favorite was making the traditional Good Friday meal “Fanesca” every year. Carmen was a devoted Catholic who favored Saint Anthony. Carmen was always thinking of the well-being of her family here as well as in Ecuador. She was a sweet and caring with all her grandchildren especially the younger ones the great grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Matthew funeral home; 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY, funeral from Matthew funeral home on Friday, September 30 departing at 9:00 AM. Mass will be at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 10:00am, burial will follow at Silver Mount Cemetery.
