Obituary of Carolyn Fazzolari

Carolyn Ann Fazzolari (nee Vivona) was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 21, 1941 and passed away on October 1, 2022. Carolyn was the wife of the late Bob Fazzolari who passed away on April 13, 2004. She resided in West Palm Beach Florida and stayed with her daughter, Theresa, in Staten Island. Carolyn earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pratt Institute in June 1963 and a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University in June 1966. Carolyn worked in the New York Naval Ship yard in Brooklyn as an engineer from June 1963 to December 1966. She was an instructor at the Pratt Institute from September 1967 to August 1969. Carolyn was a Professor and Chairperson of the Mechanical Engineering Department and acting Dean of Administration at the College of Staten Island. She retired in 2000 to reside in Florida. Carolyn was a member of SWE (Society of Women’s Engineers) since 1963. She was the recipient of numerous awards in her field of study. She also started a program at the college for high school female students to become interested in engineering. She was an accomplished pianist from the age of 5 years old. Carolyn turned down a full scholarship to Julliard to go to engineering school. Her hobbies included travel with her daughter, family and friends on cruises, enjoyed watching the NY Mets and listening to Elvis Presley music. She was a member of the New York State Woman, Inc., Richmond County Chapter serving as 2nd Vice President and wrote the newsletter for the local chapter (Richmond County). She was a member of the Woodrow United Methodist Church and past editor of the church newsletter. Carolyn also helped her daughter with working the desk for the Village Greens swim club which is part of the SI Swimming & Diving Interclub Association. Carolyn was married to Bob Fazzolari from June 1964 until his passing in April 2004. She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Natalie Vivona. She is survived by her sisters Julia Fontano (predeceased brother-in-law Tony), Lois Dolce (husband Joseph), sister-in laws Terry Fazzolari, Verna LaPointe, and Karen Fazzolari (predeceased brother-in-law Ralph) and her late sister-in-law, Rosmarie Fazzolari. Also survived by many nieces and nephews: Godson, Anthony Fontano (wife, Michele), Christina and Alexandra Fontano (great nieces), Natalie and Joseph Dolce, Melissa Werle (husband, Chris) Colette and Franny Werle (great nieces), Michael Fazzolari (wife, Coleen) James and Shane Fazzolari (great nephews) Richard LaPointe (wife, Jessica) and Robert LaPointe. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children would be greatly appreciated.
