Obituary of Mary O'Connor

Mary O'Connor (nee Heath), 84, of Westerleigh, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2022, with her family by her side. Mary was predeceased, in 2013, by her loving husband of 55 years, Daniel O'Connor. Loving and cherished mother of Kevin O'Connor and his wife Elizabeth, Maureen Barranco and her husband Vincent, Margaret O'Connor, Kathy McGuigan and her husband Kevin and the late Thomas O'Connor. Cherished and adored grandmother of Daniel, Kevin, John, Anthony, Thomas, Ellen, Kerry, Meaghan, Nicholas, and Patrick. Beloved sister to Margaret Heath and Frank Heath. Mary was born in the Bronx, in 1938. After graduating from Walton High School, she worked at Manufacturer's Trust Bank near 149th Street. Marrying in 1958, at St. Jerome's Church, Mary moved to Staten Island settling in Westerleigh. Mary had a large extended family filled with nieces, nephews that she loved. After raising her family, Mary was employed at JCPenney's where after retiring continued the friendships she made. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were her immense joy and love. Mary was an avid New York Yankees fan and loved watching the games with the kids. Mary also enjoyed her 'round table' lunches with her dear friends, Joanna and Lorraine, and her sister, Margaret. Mary's kind and gentle spirit will be missed by everyone. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, October 16, 2022, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Matthew Funeral Home; 2508 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, October 17, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with final resting place at St. Peter's Cemetery.
