Obituary of Lula M. Frazier

Lula Mae Frazier, 91, of Staten Island, passed away at Clove Lakes Nursing Home with her family by her side on November 24, 2022, Thanksgiving morning. She was the wife of James Frazier (deceased May 2020); loving mom of Gerald and his wife Lorraine, daughter Celeste, son David (deceased November 2010) and daughter Leslie and her husband Chris Lacey. She had 2 beautiful grandsons Jordan and Justin. She was predeceased by her parents Roosevelt Hyman and Cora Whitaker and siblings Ernest, Clara, and Douglas. Lula was born on December 19, 1930, at home in Manhattan, New York. She was 3 weeks shy of her 92nd birthday. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1947. She mainly worked in the health field as a Health Aide. Most of her employment was working at P.S. 31 and Curtis High School in Staten Island, NY. She did enjoy travel especially to locations such as Spain and Portugal through her job at Curtis High School. She spent a few summers in Aruba and Barbados with her daughter from Florida and her best friend Bernice and family. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching game shows, soap operas and Turner Classic Movies. Last year she battled a leg infection which required her to be admitted to the hospital and then transfer to Clove Lakes Nursing Home for constant care and recovery. By mid-2021 she then had frequent problems with ambulation and nutritional support. She also suffered with COPD. Although physically weakened, she endured her hardships during the year. She had a strong heart and showed kindness to many she encountered. She will be missed greatly. Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
