Dear Camile, Dena & Pat: So very very sorry we could not be with you today to share a loving hug and tears.
We hope to be able to see you in the very near future and talk with you soon. Rio's loss is a great one. Rio will be remembered in our thoughts, our prayers and especially in my heart. Love, Geri & Mikey

My Dear Cousin Rio, I am sad to have heard of your passing yesterday morning. It seems like yesterday that you were here at my home for the gathering I had when our CA cousins were visiting. We had a wonderful time that day in May of 2013. You’ve now joined three others who were here that day. I loved seeing you and Camille over the years. Loved reading to your kids when they were little. May you rest in eternal peace, free from pain and illness. I can almost see my grandma and your parents welcoming you to heaven. God bless dear Camille and your kids. Until we meet again. Cousin Janet….John and Em too

As the old saying goes you don't have to talk often, but when you do it was like you spoke yesterday. Our 60 year friendship was exactly that! We met when we were 15. Played in a band together. Rio had a voice that could do Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennet and lots of the 40's singers. Every time I hear Birth of the Blues I think of him. Rio and I would spend hours and hours together during our teen years at his house and late nights after he would leave Camile's house. Never at a loss for conversation.
We were married in the same year. 1970. Geri & I May 23. Camile & Rio June 13 (I think that was the date) We were in one anothers bridal parties. We wrote one another while he served in Viet Nam. Our two children came along within a few years after we were married. My late Mom would always comment how great it was to see two friends kiss whenever they saw each other.
To say there was a great bond was putting it lightly. Our careers and lives took us apart, however, always stayed in touch.
Very difficult to accept Rio not being there to talk on the phone. Rio, you may have left the earth but you will always be in my heart.
Until we meet again my DEAR FRIEND, Love you, Mikey.
The photo above is my bridal party. Rio is second from right.

People often use the phrase, " He was like a Father to me ", but it was never more appropriate than now to express those thoughts and words. It is not the first time I have said that, nor will it be the last. A father figure teaches a young boy how to throw the ball, 0r to swing the club, or to change the anti-freeze in the car. At the time it seems so small a gesture, and so trivial, and yet over 40 years later, you can still remember exactly where you were, and what you were talking about. And that alone can attest to the Father- Son like bond I shared with my Uncle. The days of playing ball at the Park may be behind us both, but the memories of those days will never fade, despite our different paths we now take. XOXOX Uncle Rio. Live Long and Prosper !

So sorry for the loss of Uncle Rio.
Of course it’s always nerve racking meeting your future spouses family but not in this case.
From the first day I was treated like I was always a part of the family.
Loved going to Staten Island for all the holidays, and no occasion dinners, sitting around the big dining room table for hours eating, chatting, getting an education from Uncle Rio, very smart man. The best was playing games after dinner like poker, trivia pursuit, he always won that game, lol.
Going to miss him, Rest In Peace Uncle Rio.
