Obituary of Benedetto Caruso

Benedetto Caruso, 65, of Staten Island NY, passed away peacefully at home on January 13th 2023. He was the beloved husband of Silvana Caruso for over 35 years; loving father of Carolina Ferrante and her husband Giancarlo Ferrante, Giuseppe Caruso and his wife Jennifer Caruso, Gaspare Caruso, and Marco Caruso; cherished nonno of Serena, Francesco and Lia; and dear brother to Caterina Mannino, Salvina Ferranti and Salvatore Caruso. Mr. Caruso was born in Torretta, Palermo, Sicily and spent his young life in Brooklyn, NY. He and his family later moved to Staten Island, where he would enjoy planting basil, vegetables, and figs in his backyard garden. Commonly known as “Benny The Butcher”, Mr. Caruso was employed at FoodTown of Bay Ridge for over 35 years and was loved by all of his dedicated customers and colleagues. Mr. Caruso will notably be remembered for his enormous heart, infectious smile, generosity and enthusiasm for helping others. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Tuesday, 1/17/2023, departing at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Monday, 1/16/2023, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
