Obituary of Helen Ellis

January 6th, 1949 - January 16th, 2023 Helen Lucille Farruggio was born on January 6th, 1949 to proud immigrant parents, Giovanni and Rosaria Farruggio of Ragusa, Sicily, in “Little Italy.” Raised in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, she was the youngest to her older brothers Joseph and John. Her life truly began in Coney Island, when she went for a ride on the Himalaya and the love of her life and future husband was working the ride. Married soon after, they went on to have two daughters, Stacey and Stefanie. In her lifetime she worked in many fields and finally retired from the Board of Ed as a paraprofessional in 2002. Helen suffered from multiple sclerosis for over 25 years and more recently lung cancer. With our personal suffering comes great relief that she is free and walking again. Helen is survived by her husband Paul, her daughters, Stacey and Stefanie, her granddaughters, Breanna and Jillian and her dogs Sofie and Zoey. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Friday, 1/20/2023, funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in Ocean View Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, 1/19/2023, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
