Obituary of Carmella P. Bonventre

Carmella P. Bonventre (nee Marino) passed away February 1, 2023, at Staten Island University Hospital South on Staten Island after a long illness. Carmella who was known as “Camille” to her family and friends, was born in the original Staten Island Hospital on Castleton Avenue on September 6, 1939. Her family moved to Boston Massachusetts for a brief period before returning to Staten Islands’ South Beach area. She met her husband Anthony when she was a freshman at McKee High School and went with him to his Senior prom. They married on Memorial Day weekend in 1959 and were together until her passing. Her parents and grandparents came from large families and were known to socialize together at her parent’s homes in South Beach then in Princes Bay. They continued with that tradition themselves as they hosted large family gatherings on Christmas Eve and held New Year’s Eve parties among other holidays, in their home. She was an avid cook, loved to play cards and travel to visit family in Florida and California as well as travel to various parts of the country with her church group. She was also very active in her parish church at Our Lady of Pity in Bulls Head. She was a member of their Rosarian Society, volunteered at countless parish events and assisted with the Senior Citizens Club until she became ill in June of 2021 and was admitted to Eger Health Care. Her main source of joy however was spending time with her Grandchildren-Toni Ann Owens (Scott), Marissa Cappelli (Tyler Bruce) and David Cappelli; her Great Grandson Anthony Owens (Isabella); and welcoming their daughter-Great Great Granddaughter Everleigh into the family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: daughter Virginia Cappelli (David) daughter Patricia Bonventre, son Frank Bonventre (Duane Poole). She is also survived by sister Josephine Caruso, Gaetano Liantonio (Frank) and brother Simone Marino (Mary) in addition to nieces and nephews. Her funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation at Matthew Funeral Home on Staten Island Saturday February 4 and Sunday February 5, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral mass of the Christian Burial at Our Lady of Pity church in Bulls Head on Monday February 6, 2023, at 10:30 AM. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Princes Bay after the Mass.
