Obituary of Ingrid C. Russel

Ingrid Carmilla Aanensen was a longtime Westerleigh resident and Staten Islander. She attended Fort Lee High School in New Jersey and graduated with honors. She was voted most congenial and most all-around student. She went on to graduate from Wagner College in their Nurse Cadet Program and worked as a nurse at Seaview Hospital. It was during this time that she met her husband Harold, or Hap, as we know him. Ingrid just happened to be one of the nurses that was taking care of his mother who was in the hospital. His mom actually said, “Harold, that is the kind of girl you should marry.” Ingrid was a devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed making puzzles, knitting, and crocheting. She also loved playing games like Scrabble and Uno, especially with the grandchildren. Ingrid belonged to Zion’s Women’s Bible Study group and volunteered at the Christian Home for Children in Fort Lee, New Jersey where she spent her childhood from age 2 until 18. Because of her nursing background everyone in our family would always look to her for advice whenever they got a cold or sniffle. Ingrid was always happy to help. Everyone she met was touched by her sweet and gentle spirit. Ingrid is survived by her husband Harold and her 2 daughters Linda Carlson and Eileen Arzberger and their families. Linda’s family includes her 2 daughters Sherri and her husband, Rick Bode, and their talented children, Rylie, Olivia, Gretta, and Beckett, Christy and her husband, Chris, and their children, Cyrena and Cayla. Eileen’s family includes her husband, Kenneth and son, Andrew, and his wife, Chika and children, Thor and Alice. The Russel family thanks you for our support, friendship, and prayers, and has requested that Memorial gifts be given in memory of Ingrid Russel to Zion Lutheran Church.
