Obituary of Susan V. Brooks

Susan Brooks was born September 1, 1956 to parents Hiram and Barbara Brooks in Staten Island where she was raised. She was the first of five children. She departed this life on April 13, 2023 at the age of 66. Susan attended PS18 and graduated from Susan Wagner High School. On September 26, 1977 she was blessed with a son, Kenneth Rashan Brooks, whom she loved dearly. She was employed as a secretary at a law firm and worked various other jobs in her lifetime. She had a passion for food and she let everybody know it. She loved to cook, especially fried chicken and collard greens. She adored shopping, but liked saving money more - she would never let a sale go by. But she always made sure to get a little something for anyone else she was thinking about, and she was always thinking about family or friends while shopping. Susan was a God-fearing woman. She was also deeply superstitious, but only to make sure her family and friends kept all the luck they earned. She was fiercely protective of her family and she adored her dog Bandit. She loved to party, the music, dancing, chatting and playing cards. Her energy would fill any room. Preceding Susan in death is her father Hiram Brooks. She is survived by her mother Barbara Brooks, her son Kenneth “Rashan” Brooks, and her grandchildren Tayshaun and Alexzeya Brooks. Also her siblings Hiram “Bip”, Kirk, Jeannine and Kalonji Brooks and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Saturday, 4/22/2023, a service will be held at the funeral home at 7:30 PM. Family and friends may visit on Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A private cremation will follow.
