Obituary of Marie C. Marrone

Marie C. Marrone, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great grandmother Born Marie Corona in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn, Marie graduated from the former Bay Ridge High School and went to work for what was then known as Bank of Manhattan, now Chase. It was at the bank in 1951 that she would meet her husband of 60 years, Vito, who passed away in 2012. They moved to Sheepshead Bay and became active members of St. Mark's R.C. Church and school. In addition, they became very involved in neighborhood civic activities and were founding members of B.I.G. (Bay Improvement Group). In that capacity they were proudest of the role they played in establishing Firemen's Corner on Ocean Avenue and Avenue Y, site of the Waldbaum's fire in August 1978 where six firefighters died when the roof collapsed. In later years, Marie went to work as secretary to the academic dean of St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn where it was very common for her to leave home alone in the morning and arrive at the college with a full car picking up and transporting students waiting at various bus stops along the way. She and Vito were both boating enthusiasts and enjoyed many vacations together. Marie was a great cook and to this day her family is baffled as to how she put out big sumptuous Christmas Eve dinners for 15-20 people, often some unexpected, out of her tiny galley kitchen on East 14th Street. There was always room for more at her table. In 2005, she and Vito moved to Staten Island after living for a short time in Long Island and became a parishioner of St. Teresa's in Castleton Corners. In 2021 Marie moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in Mill Basin, Brooklyn where she made new friends and was lovingly cared for with great kindness. Marie was born on January 15th, 1929 to the late William and Ann Corona. She was the beloved wife of the late Vito and mother of Virginia Alvarado, Michael (Mary Pat) and Dr. Marie Marrone-Moriarty (James), grandmother of Patricia Vidiksis (Adam), Victoria, Cassie and Terence Vito Moriarty, great grandmother of Olivia and Gabriel Vidiksis and sister of the late Florence Manza (John). Also survived by an extended family of loving nieces, nephews, and special friends, all who loved her dearly. Marie will fondly be remembered for her deep love of God and country, and devotion to her loving family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers in her memory.
