Obituary of Young Hwi Lim

Young Hwi Lim, 76, of Staten Island, passed away peacefully at Staten Island University Hospital with family by his side on May 18, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Chong Oun Lim; loving father of Susie Lim and Jane Lim and the proud grandfather of 3 grandchildren: Andrew, Cody and Emily. Young Hwi was born in July 1946 in South Korea during a tumultuous time. Despite difficult circumstances, he graduated from Korea University. He had an unusual facility with math and was the top score of his year in the college entrance examinations in mathematics. He married Chong Oun Lim and moved to New York City in the 1970s and owned a store in Park Slope on 7th Avenue living in Brooklyn. They owned another store on Flatbush and Church Avenue for over 30 years and moved their family to Staten Island in the early 1980s. He was a longstanding and popular member of the Marn-Baeksung United Methodist Church of Staten Island. Young Hwi was a dynamic personality who lit up rooms with his quick wit, kind acts and genuine interest in all people. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, hosting backyard barbecues, golfing, spending time with nature, and planning his next big adventure. He believed strongly in always choosing the right and honorable path and helping people less fortunate. Family and Friends may visit on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 7:00pm to 9:00 PM at Matthew Funeral Home: 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY.
