Obituary of Lorene A. Peyton

Lorene Peyton, 69, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday May 21, 2023. She was the beloved wife of James Peyton for 43 wonderful years, loving mother of Lauren and her husband Antonio Kidd and an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, great aunt, friend, and inspiration to many. Lorene was born on February 24, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from St. John’s University with a MA in education as well as Master’s Degree in special education. She worked for many years as a teacher at both St. Bernadette’s Catholic Academy in Brooklyn as well as St. Joseph Hill Academy in Staten Island. She loved her job and her students. Lorene was a very passionate and kind person with a heart of gold. She loved being in the sun and by the water, whether it was just in her backyard, a swim/pool club, the beach, or on vacation. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. We will remember her as loyal, caring, and strong. She made the best stuffed artichokes and hosted the best family gatherings. She welcomed everyone she met with open arms and always saw the good, in everyone and in life. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday, departing at 9:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Lorene’s memory may be made to giving.mskcc.org.
