Obituary of Francisco Muro

Francisco (Frank) Muro, 84, passed away on June 12, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born to Yolanda and Jack Muro on January 8, 1939 in the neighborhood of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. He grew up close with his younger brother Ralph (deceased) and his many cousins. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served for six years. Following his service he worked as a longshoreman on the Brooklyn waterfront. In 1962, he married the love of his life Barbara Barca and had one child, their daughter Christine. In 1968, Francisco joined the NYPD where he worked his way to becoming a detective. During his 20 years of service, he specialized in investigating crimes related to narcotics, robbery, and organized crime. Following his retirement, he owned and operated a small restaurant in Brooklyn with his wife and went on to open multiple successful bars. Francisco enjoyed spending time with his family– especially his three grandchildren–eating at his favorite restaurants, and visiting his condo in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He had many friends and loved making jokes and making people laugh with his dry sense of humor. He was an accomplished poker player who played for fun with friends and competitively in tournaments. Over the years he was successful in the thoroughbred racing industry–owning, breeding, and racing horses in both New York and Florida with his son-in-law, Richard. Francisco was a beloved husband to his wife Barbara for 61 years, a loving father to his daughter Christine and son-in-law Richard, and an adoring grandfather to three grandchildren: Christine, Nicole, and Richard, who he was endlessly proud of. The wake will be held at Matthew Funeral Home: 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314 on Thursday, June 15 from 7-9pm and Friday, June 16 from 2-4:30pm and 7-9pm. Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church: 125 Summit St, Brooklyn, NY 11231 on Saturday, June 17 at 9:30am, followed by the burial at Green-Wood Cemetery: 500 25th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232.
