Obituary of Paul A. Giordano

OBITUARY: May the winds of heaven blow softly and whisper in your ear how much we love and miss you and wish that you were here. Paul A. Giordano was called to heaven on Monday, June 19th, 2023 at 65 years young. Firstborn son of the late Anthony (Tony) and Pauline (Paula) Giordano, Paul was born on January 29th, 1958 and called Bay 11th Street in Brooklyn, NY his home. Paul would go on to become the dedicated big brother to Anthony Giordano and years later the supportive brother-in law to Carmelina Giordano and Cathy Minichello and the fun-loving uncle to Anthony and Matthew Giordano and Vincent Minichello (Leann Minichello) and Lauren Minichello (fiancé Robert Eysel). Sundays in Brooklyn were spent around the dinner table with Paul's loving grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins; many of whom lived only steps away from his childhood home. While delicious food filled their bellies, countless stories and endless laughs (with Paul as the unsuspected prankster) filled their hearts. Paul attended St. Francis Cabrini elementary school and Lafayette High School before following in his father's footsteps working as a mailer at the New York Times. Paul, or Paulie, as he was known by many, might be spotted back in the day, cruising down 86th street in his Corvette or on one of his Harleys and pumping iron at Ferrigno's Gym. He carried that tough guy persona with him as a bouncer at such notorious venues as Romeo and Juliets, L'amour and the Paramount, where, legend has it, he tossed Billy Idol out after a rowdy night. Paul was an owner of such establishments as Queens NY and Diamonds before wrapping up his club days as an owner of the Brooklyn hotspot Enigma; which was quite fitting, given he was an enigma himself. The big guy with an even bigger heart. A man who found comfort and joy spending hours doing things like setting up his tackle boxes, fixing appliances by replacing a $15 part and even building a custom Go-kart from scratch for his nephews Anthony and Matthew. In 1995, the beat (and Paul's world) got turned around when he met the love of his life, Joann. He seamlessly, and, without hesitation, took on a roll he was destined for as a second father to Joann Dembinski (Peter Dembinski) Michelle Harrison (Gregory Harrison) Jaimie Lamanno (Peter Varounis) and Michael Lamanno. Together, Joann and Paul, took great joy in the simple things in life. Memorable Christmas Eve celebrations, long road trips to Florida and weekends spent at his beloved childhood destination, Greenwood Lake, where Paul & Joann would later marry in November of 2000. After 22 years of marriage, they were "Still the One" for each other. In 2007, Paul & Joann planted roots in Staten Island, NY, to be closer to the kids as they grew their families. Paul was a devoted husband & loving father, but perhaps the role he cherished most was as a doting Papa to the Fab 5: Gregory, Petey, Nicky, Rocco, and Mia. Never one to command the center of attention, you would often find Papa on the sidelines, watching his grandkids playing their favorite sports or at one of their many school celebrations. Papa reveled in trips to the lake with Mima and the grandkids, where he patiently taught them to fish before stopping at Bellvale for their favorite ice cream. When asked to describe their Papa, his grandkids used such fitting words as quiet, sweet and strong. They added he was a teacher, an observer and a fighter. But, perhaps, best of all, they said Papa was UNFORGETTABLE. Paul is survived by his heartbroken wife, children, grandchildren, brother and sister-in-laws, nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends; all of whom will be sure to carry on the stories, traditions, hobbies, and memories that make Paul truly unforgettable.
