Obituary of Daniel L. Holihan

Daniel L. Holihan, 100, of Staten Island, passed away peacefully at Clove Lakes Nursing Home on July 18, 2023. Dan was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth R. Holihan and loving father of Maureen Holihan Russo. Mr Holihan was the loving brother of the late Helen Ramsey, Rita Farley and the Reverend John Holihan. Dan has two nephews, John Farley and his wife Josephine Farley and their kids Daithi and Cicran Farley. He is also survived by nephew Sal Biondio and his Wife Pam, as well as their children Michael and Sal Biondio. Dan has one niece Patricia Harrigan and her husband Thomas Harrigan and their kids Courtney Harrigan and Thomas Harrigan Jr. Daniel was born on March 23, 1923 on Staten Island, NY. Dan is a native Staten Islander who grew up in Port Richmond. He enjoyed watching the NY Yankees play on TV. The Yankees were his favorite team. He enjoyed swimming laps at LA Fitness, enjoyed watching the Turner Classic Movie Channel. He loved getting together for family dinners for the holidays and enjoyed the Labor Day BBQ at his niece Patty's house. On Memorial Day weekend the Secretary of the Navy, Carlos Del Toro awarded Dan the Bronze Star Medal with combat V for heroic achievement connected to combat operations as a member of the underwater demolition team 13 in Japan. Dan was a WWII Veteran. He will be greatly missed by all and always had a lot of stories to tell about his growing up years on Staten Island and all his Navy adventures he used to talk about. Family and friends may visit on July 20, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Boulevard. Funeral from Matthew Funeral Home on Friday, July 21 at 8:30. At 10:00 am his funeral mass will be offered at Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow mass on Friday at Resurrection Cemetery.
