Obituary of Robert Gnerre

Beloved father and grandfather, Robert Gaetano Gnerre, “Bobby”, age 69, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2023. Bobby is survived by his brother Anthony, his sons Robert (Allison) and Joseph (Jill), daughter Lisa, as well as his five grandchildren that were his pride and joy - Campbell, Nicholas, Giuliana, Caiden and Ryan Gnerre. Bobby is also survived by his former wife, Patricia Gnerre. He was predeceased in death by his parents Albert and Angelina (Benevento) Gnerre. Bobby was born and raised in West Brighton and was a graduate of Susan Wagner High School, class of ‘72. His family jokingly referred to him as ‘the 5th Beatle’ because of his love of music that evolved while he played bass guitar in his high school band, Soundpeace. After graduating high school, Bobby went on to work for Spray City Auto Body and drove a cement mixer for Van Bro before landing a job at Scara-Mix where he enjoyed a lengthy career that lasted over 25 years. Upon retirement from Scara Mix, Bobby went to work for Pioneer Transportation where he just recently retired from this past June. When his children were younger, the Gnerre house was a popular hang out. Everyone knew ‘Mr. Gnerre’ and to this day whenever he would see one of the neighborhood kids, he would greet them with a smile and could engage them in conversation reminiscing for hours. Family was everything to Bobby, as was evident by his many Facebook posts and his home that was adorned with photo after photo of his children and grandkids. He would often boast about his fireman sons, and his daughter. Perhaps his most favorite role though was that of ‘Grandpa’. Anyone who knew Bobby knew what a doting grandfather he was. He loved watching all his grandkids play their sports and would spend his weekends literally ‘game hopping’ to see each of them. He had a great sense of humor and loved laughing and joking with them. They were the world to him. In his downtime, Bobby enjoyed spending time with his many friends down at Liedy’s Shore Inn where you could often find him jamming out with Jimmy Mack. Bobby was a kind man who always went above and beyond for those who knew him. His trademark sunglasses and big smile will be missed by so many. Funeral from Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd., S.I., N.Y. 10314 on Tuesday, August 15th at 10am. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Church, 981 Castleton Ave. at 10:45am. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends will be received on Monday, August 14th from 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm.
