Geraldine baby sat my sister and me in the late sixties, early seventies as she lived next door. She'd sleep at our house on nights that my parents stayed out too late. I'd wake up before everyone. As a 6 or 7 year old on one such occasion, as I walked into the kitchen early one morning, I saw three one dollar bills on the table. I had no idea why money would be just sitting on the table, but I was concerned that it would get lost. So, I put it into a nearby drawer and went about my day. A little later that morning my mother asked me if I'd seen the money, which of course we all know by now, was Geraldine's PAY! Geraldine had told her mother that she HAD NOT BEEN PAID LOL OL LOL ! So Mrs Rogers asked my mother about it. My mother of course, said that Geraldine's pay was left on the kitchen table as always, and my folks assumed that Geraldine had picked it up when she got out of bed and went home!!! What a circus I'd started!!! Anyway, as soon as my mother asked me about the money, (there in the kitchen) I said YES, I saw it, and I put it in a drawer for safety. Then I pulled the money out of the drawer, and handed it to my mother. She broke into the most beautiful smile and said, "That's my sweet boy." She explained that it was Geraldine's pay, and next time Geraldine watched us, I should let the money just sit on the table. Then she went next door to the Rogers' house and explained what had happened, and of course paid Geraldine. Once again, all was right in the world. Geraldine was a good, kind baby sitter, and that I'll remember forever.
