Obituary of Barbara M. Danischewski

Barbara Mary Connor Danischewski, ninety-two years of age, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on November 24, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Staten Island, New York; born in Westerleigh on November 22, 1931,she attended P.S. 30 and graduated from Notre Dame high school in 1949 and then was accepted to the Wood Secretarial School. ​She grew up in Westerleigh and married her husband MarcDanischewski at age twenty, living in New Dorp and Sunnyside before settling in New Brighton. There, she raised four childrenbefore moving to Castleton Corners after her husband Marc’s death in 1985. ​Barbara was a devout Catholic and attended Our Lady of Good Counsel in Tompkinsville; she later attended St. Theresa’s. She volunteered at St. Vincent’s/RUMC for many years. She began playing golf in her early fifties and was an avid member of the Silvette’s and LaTourette’s Women’s Golf League, winning several awards over the years including a golf tournament in 1994 and 1997. She contributed to a number of charities close to her heart. ​Mom, also known as Nana or Gigi, was always there for her family, ready and willing to help and give advice. She loved life and loved to travel and went on many trips and cruises overseas with her family and friends, including Bermuda, Hawai’i, Alaska, Mexico, France, and Scandinavia. She was an excellent baker and known for her fantastic desserts, especially on holidays. She would often grace family gatherings with her classic singing voice and sharp sense of humor. She will be truly missed. She is survived by three children:Marc Jr., Robert, and Lynn; she joins her two pre-deceased children: Drew and Diane. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Adam, Kristen, Jaime, Jason, David, Stephen, Keely, and Emma; and six great-grandchildren: Hayley, Tobias, Cristiano, Lilikoi, William (Liam), and Julieta. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 30th, at Matthew Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2508 Victory Boulevard from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. On Friday there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Counsel Church 10am. An Interment to follow at St Peter’s Cemetery.
