Obituary of Ronald R. Mitchell

Ronald R. Mitchell, 78, long-time resident of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, passed away on December 2, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband to Anne Mitchell and father to Lori Mitchell, Ronald (Robbie) Mitchell (his wife Clare), Dara Holly (her husband Matt), and Kristy Hickey (her husband Tommy); He was also a devoted grandfather to thirteen grandchildren: Clare Lenore, Robert, Marylee, Giana, Tommy, Danny, Noel, Elizabeth, Ryan, Katherine, Katelyn, Erin, and Brynn. Ron was born in Middle Village Queens as the only child to Edna and Irvine Mitchell. Ron was drafted into the United States Army and served his time in Schweinfurt, Germany. Upon returning home, he began his career in banking at Williamsburg Savings Bank in downtown Brooklyn. Ron’s career was not the only thing igniting, and after catching the eye of a beautiful young co-worker she very quickly became the love of his life. The romance led to a marriage of 54 years, which welcomed countless memories including summer trips to visit family in Ormond Beach, Florida, cheering on his children in various sports, and enjoying the company of countless friends from the neighboring blocks and the Sporting Club GJOA. A devoted family man, Ron became an organ donor when his oldest daughter needed a life-saving transplant. He also served as a long-standing bartender at GJOA and when he wasn’t slinging drinks to the patrons, he could be found slinging darts in one of his weekly leagues. His calm and quiet demeanor stood tall as one of the most defining traits shared amongst those he cherished. Although not loud, Ron’s impact on those around him will be forever remembered and sadly missed. Funeral from Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd departing at 10:00AM on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church in Breezy Point, Queens at 11:00AM. Friends and Family can visit Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 5-9PM.
