Obituary of Kolawole S. Akanmu
Kolawole Akanmu was born the 31st of August in 1961 to Alhaji Ibrahim Olapade and Bolanle Akanmu in Mushin Lagos, Nigeria. Mr. Akanmu began schooling in 1968 at St. Michael Primary School in Mushin Lagos, Nigeria. By 1979, Mr. Akanmu was attending Anwar Islam Secondary School in Agege, Nigeria. Teachers hailed his love for learning and consistency in academic performance. He later continued his secondary education at Liberty Academy in Ibadan, Oyo State where he completed his WASC. Mr. Akanmu then attended Ibadan Polytechnic to complete A1 Levels.
A man with a dream, from 1983 to 1986 he continued to pursue education at the University of Lagos, where he achieved his Bachelor of Science in Sociology. Mr. Akanmu furthered this endeavor by achieving his Master of Science in International Law and Diplomacy at the University of Lagos.
Soon after, Mr. Akanmu left his beloved home country for the green pastures of Germany in which he began working and exploring more about himself as well as other cultures. In 1990, Mr. Akanmu arrived to stay with his older brother Olaniyi Akanmu, in Staten Island, NY. Not too long after, he branched off to start his own family; welcoming the birth of his first born in 1992.
He began his career as a caseworker for the New York City Human Resources Administration. While in Staten Island, Mr. Akanmu was an active member of his community. He was member and leader of the Nigerian Association of Staten Island. Additionally, he mentored many and was an avid participant of events and projects throughout the tri-state area.
Mr. Kolawole Akanmu is survived by his wife Sakirat Akanmu, two daughters Darlene and Olatoyosi, three sons Sheriff, Olaitan, and Ayomide. Kolawole Akanmu is a man that worked extremely hard his whole life to support his family both within the states as well as family in Nigeria. His life and legacy of love, strength, and persistence will forever live on.
Funeral Service at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, at 9:30 am. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 9 am to 9:30 am.
