Obituary of Elizabeth Carrara

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Elizabeth Carrara, a beloved wife to Carl, loving mother to Doreen and Carl and their spouses, Paul and Joanne, and a doting grandmother to Paul, Julia, Ryan, and Owen.

Betty, as she was known to all, was born on the 19th of August 1938 in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.  She went to school locally and graduated from Bay Ridge High School in 1955.

She married her sweetheart, Carl, in September 1963.  Betty and Carl lived in Brooklyn at first and then made their home in Staten Island.

Betty worked in an office until she married and then as a teacher’s aid for many years after. But anyone who knew her knew that her full-time love and passion was taking care of her family.  Doreen and Carl grew up in a house filled with love and caring.  Her children were her pride and joy and when they married, she gave Paul and Joanne that same love and acceptance immediately

When the grandchildren came along, she scuttled plans to retire to Florida because she could not imagine being that far away from them.  Any conversations with Betty always included an update on each child and every wall in her house was filled with pictures of the kids. It is hard to imagine a more loving grandmother than Betty.

Betty lived her life to the fullest, always scheduling outings with friends and sunny vacations.  When we think of her, it is usually a vision of her sitting in the sun with a diet coke in her hand.

The loss her family feels is a deep one.  We will miss her laughter, advice and vivid story telling.  We know she is with her husband again and pretty sure she is enjoying a diet coke with him in Heaven.

Rest in peace Betty, we love you.
