Obituary of Rosario Eileen "Charito" Ilustre Cairme

Rosario Eileen “Charito” Ilustre Cairme (October 21, 1951 - May 15, 2024)

Rosario Ilustre Cairme, known affectionately by her family as "Eileen" and by her friends as "Charito," passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, at the age of 72 in Staten Island, New York. Born in Manila, Philippines, on October 21, 1951, Charito was a vibrant soul who brought joy and music into the lives of those around her.

Charito was the beloved wife of Enrique Cairme Jr. and a loving mother to Cristy, Chona, and Enric. She was a cherished grandmother to Demelina (David), Caitlyn, and Geralyn. She is predeceased by her parents, Epitacio Ilustre and Angelina Montales.

Raised by a family of musicians in Batangas, Philippines, Charito carried her passion for music throughout her life. She was not only a talented singer and pianist but also a semi-finalist in the Miss Philippines 1970 pageant. Her educational journey took her from local schools in Batangas to Far Eastern University where she earned her degree.

In 1983, Charito and her family moved to New York, where she continued to make a significant impact. She was an active member of various organizations, including Lions Clubs International and The Knights of Rizal, receiving accolades such as the Outstanding Leadership and Presidents Award. Her commitment to helping others was evident through her participation in fundraisers and medical missions to the Philippines.

Charito was also known for her exquisite cooking, which was adored by all who had the pleasure of tasting it. She reveled in life's joys—whether it was dancing in her beautiful gowns, traveling, or simply spending hours on the phone chatting with friends and family.

The family stood devotedly by her side during her last weeks, and she has now gone to rejoin her Heavenly family.

Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, May 23, at Matthew Funeral Home in Staten Island. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 24, at Holy Child Church, followed by her final resting place at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in New Jersey.

The Cairme family extends their heartfelt thanks for all the love and support during this time and encourages everyone to keep Charito’s memory alive in their hearts. May she rest in eternal peace.
