Obituary of Lawrence M. Cocozello

Lawrence M. Cocozello, age 81, of Westerleigh, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, NJ. He was the beloved husband for 57 years of Virginia (nee Fanelli), loving father of Pamela Cocozello, Lisa Kelly and her husband, James, and Lawrence Jr.; cherished grandfather of James Kelly, Zachary Kelly, Laur'en Cocozello, and Jadyn Cocozello; dear brother of Jerry Cocozello and his wife, Josephine and the late Matthew Cocozello. He was also survived many nieces and nephews and his close friend Robert Medina. Mr. Cocozello is a native Staten Islander, born and raised in Tompkinsville, and graduated from Curtis High School. After high school he served in the US Army for two years, and when he came back he attended classes at CSI. He worked for the NYC Department of Sanitation as a Supervisor, retiring in 1994. In his spare time he enjoyed drag racing in his younger days at various tracks, fishing, hunting, trips to Cape Cod and Upstate New York. He owned a vacation home in Ocean City, MD, where enjoyed spending time at. Lawrence was a member of the Staten Island Surf Club and Mid-Atlantic Fishing Club (Ocean City, MD), The VFW LaBetti Post, Knights of Columbus Fr. Capodanno Council at Holy Family. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., on Thursday departing at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10 am. Interment to follow at Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
