Obituary of Robert E. Lane

Robert (Bob) Lane- was born and lived his life on Staten Island.  Bob was the eldest of 7 children.  He joined the Marine Corp right out of high school, where he fought in the Korean War.  He survived the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir- a signature battle for the US Marine Corp.

After the war, Bob went on to become a police officer. He rose through the ranks to sergeant in the NYPD, serving the people of New York City. When he retired from the police department he continued to serve his community, working alongside fellow veterans at the Marine Corp League and the VFW post.  He served as Commandant of the Marine Corp League as well as Commander of the VFW post in Westerleigh. These places were his home away from home where he found great friendships that lasted for the rest of his life.  We, his family, are grateful for the service and the support of these loyal and caring veterans.

Bob was the father of 4- Mike, Steve, Scott, and Ginny, grandfather of 4- Danielle, Danny, Tommy, and Paul, and great grandfather of 7.

He lived his life in service of others.  His life wasn’t always easy, but it was meaningful.  He made a difference.  He will be missed.

Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, departing at 11:00 AM.  Interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.  Visitation is scheduled on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.
