Obituary of Mary Ann LaPorto

Mary Ann (Marcovecchio) La Porto, 81, of Tannersville, PA, passed away on Saturday, June 15 at her home.

She was born on February 14, 1943 in Staten Island, New York, and was the daughter of the late Alphonso and Gandolfa [Mamie] (Russo) Marcovecchio. She was also predeceased by her only brother Matthew Marcovecchio, of Staten Island, NY.  She was a resident of Monroe County for over 30 years where she resided until she passed; devoted wife to the late Anthony LaPorto. Mary Ann and Anthony were married 29 years prior to his death and were inseparable.  They loved each other a lifetime and are now reunited in peace together.

Mary Ann worked various jobs over the years including Chase Manhattan Bank, NY; Fitzmaurice Community Services, Stroudsburg, PA, and RMS in Bethlehem, as well as, an Avon Representative for over 20 years. She was also a devout Catholic an active member of her church Our Lady of Victory in Tannersville for 38 years. Mary Ann was part of its Ladies Guild Organization at the church and did an array of volunteer work with them over the years including volunteering at their annual Bazaar for over 20 years.

She had a love for music that ranged from Opera to Gospel to Modern day artist such as Adele. Adored Broadway musicals, movies, needle point and crocheting to name a few of her passions.  She was an avid reader her whole life some of her favorite authors were Mary Higgins Clark and James Patterson. Both her favorite book and movie was Gone with the Wind she always loved the classics. She was full of life and always loved new adventures including car rides to explore new places.  She was known for her compassion, kindness and generous heart which drew people to her, but what mattered the most to Mary Ann was her family, friends and animals. She rescued many animals over the years most of them who she adopted and cared for until the end of their lives.

Mary Ann is survived by her Thomas LaPorto and the late Maricris LaPorto; two daughters, Phyllis Korenski and her husband, David Korenski, and Toni Ann Burns and her significant other Vince Sole. Beloved Grandmother to: Brian, Kaitlyn, Daniel, Kelley (Christopher), Tyler, and Kaylie. Mary Ann was also predeceased by her two grandchildren Ariana Luise and David Joseph. They all brought her a great source of pride, joy and happiness to her. She was a beautiful soul full of love, laughter and light. Mary Ann was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A visitation and prayer service for family and friends will be held on Monday June 24, 2024 at Matthew Funeral Home on Staten Island, NY; Viewing from 9 to 11am; Prayer Service will begin at 11am; followed by interment at Moravian Cemetery on Staten Island.
