Obituary of John P. Luongo

John Luongo, beloved father, grandfather, esteemed Air Force veteran, and passionate musician and motorcycle enthusiast, passed away peacefully at 79, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his wife Linda Luongo, sisters Amelia and Francis, and brother Carmine. He is survived by his beloved children John, Gina, Rachel, and Jesse, along with his grandchildren Devon, Savannah, Dylan, Sophia, Santino, and Christopher. His life was a testament to resilience, courage, and strength for those fortunate enough to know him.

John was born in Staten Island, New York, on September 30, 1944, and from a young age, he showed a remarkable zest for life. His adventurous spirit led him to enlist in the United States Air Force, where he served until he was discharged honorably.

John worked for DSNY until his retirement. He dedicated his post-retirement years to his bar, the “Horseshoe Saloon,” his music, and his beloved Harley-Davidson. Whether cruising down the highways or tinkering on his bike, he found solace and joy on two wheels. His love for riding and playing guitar was infectious, and he eagerly shared his passion with his children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will endure through generations.

John's influence extended far beyond his immediate family. His quick wit, infectious humor, warm smile, and love for singing and playing his guitar made him a beloved figure in every community he was a part of.

John will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His memory will continue to inspire all fortunate enough to know him. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who lived life to the fullest and left an indelible mark on everyone who crossed his path.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Matthew Funeral Home, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 pm, where friends and family will gather to honor and remember John's life.
