Obituary of Richard A. Flynn

Richard Arthur Flynn, 67, passed away on July 13th, 2024. He is survived by his beloved children Jennifer Carr (Jenny Jean, yellow foot) and husband Craig, Richard Flynn (Richie-boy) and wife Gina, Dennis Flynn (D-Bob), Steven Flynn (Steve - O - Calabro), Madalynn Flynn (Maddy Rose with the smelly toes), and grandchildren Gavin Flynn, Jake Flynn, Josephine Carr, Austin Flynn (Auggie) & Ciaran Carr (Kiernan), and step grandchildren Ryan Carr, and Lucciano Boccia. He was predeceased by his parents Francis and Dorothy Flynn (Lennon), as well as brother’s Francis, and Joseph. He is survived by his sister Dorothy, and former wife Susan Hoey.

Richard is currently serving a 10-20 year sentence in purgatory, he is hoping to be released early with good behavior, he has some explaining to do... Richard Arthur was a United States Army veteran, and a proud retired FDNY Firefighter. He was the most loving father and grandfather, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for the ones he loved the words NO and CAN’T were not in his vocabulary. He was the kind of crazy you wanted on your side, which is why he gave 20 years of his life as one of New York’s Bravest before retiring in 2002, as he always said it takes a crazy person to run into a burning building. His childhood town of Flatbush, Brooklyn is where he began baffling those around him with bullshit and causing mischief everywhere he went by the time he could talk. He certainly did not get that face from backing up, not Richard Arthur.

Richard had a master’s degree in common sense, he was also a history enthusiast, as he often liked to rewrite his own. He was a firm believer that he was too old of a cat to be fooled by a kitten. Richard was very active during his retirement, he was an animal lover (specifically parakeets and yellow Labs names Sarge), and he was noted for his philanthropy. He supported the Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, Tunnel to Towers foundation, Father Flanagan’s Boys Town, and the Sioux Indian children at the St. Josephs school. He enjoyed camping at Jellystone park, and spending time upstate New York with his 17-year-old horse Cheyanne “Appaloosa” and the many friends he made over the years. His laugh was infectious, and he always had a joke or a story to tell, everyone will remember Dwight (one of many aliases). Hendri (alias) never let anyone rent space in his head for free & maintained coolness at all cost.

Dad you really corn beefed and pastramied us with this final farewell, but we know we will see you when we get glasses. Yes, we will all remember Dwight.

Last but certainly not least F.U., J.R.D.S.M.
