Obituary of Lucille Zona

Lucille Zona, aged 95, passed away peacefully at her home on August 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with illness. Born on December 17, 1928, on Staten Island, Lucille was the beloved daughter of the late Mary and Fred Nasella. She lived a life full of love, dedication, and cherished memories.

Lucille was an alumna of St. John Villa High School. She began her career as a key punch operator before dedicating herself to being a nurturing homemaker and later contributed her skills to the Board of Elections. Lucille's unwavering love and support were the cornerstones of her family's foundation. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 67 years, Frank Zona, and a loving mother to her daughters, Lynn Zona and Susan Zona-O’Byrne, MD.

In addition to her daughters, Lucille is survived by her son-in-law, Timothy O’Byrne, MD, and her two grandsons, Michael O’Byrne and Nicholas O’Byrne, who will forever cherish the warmth and kindness she brought into their lives. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she found immense joy in taking care of them. Lucille was predeceased by her sister, Carolyn Nasella, and her brother, Michael Nasella.

Lucille had a passion for cooking and baking, delighting her family with her culinary creations. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and especially treasured Sunday dinners, where she created lasting memories around the dinner table. Family vacations in Wildwood Crest were among her most cherished times. Lucille was also an active member of the Blessed Sacrament Mother’s Guild during her children's school years, contributing her time and energy to the community.

Her family and friends will forever hold dear the memory of her generous spirit and the joy she brought to their lives. A funeral service to celebrate Lucille’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 6, at 11 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment to follow at Moravian Cemetery.
