Obituary of Betty L. Jobe
Betty “Tiny” Laverne Jobe, beloved mother to 2 and grandmother to 6, passed away on August 16, 2024 in her home in Staten Island at the age of 77, leaving a lifetime of love and memories for her family to cherish.
Tiny was born in Queens, NY in 1946 as the youngest daughter of Albertro and Lillian Sevorwell. She was preceded in death by her four sisters, Delores, Alberta, Aldorah, and Alfrania, and is survived by her younger brother Albert. Tiny will be remembered as a force. She was a pillar of the family, dedicated to caring for her children, nieces, and nephews.
Tiny was the first in her family to complete high school, graduating from Queens Vocational High School in 1964. After a long career in International banking, at the age of 50, her passion for baking led her to attend the Culinary Institute, where she graduated and went on to become a pastry chef. She was a lover of food (her loved ones will always remember her phenomenal cooking and baking), music, fashion, fine wine, design and all things DIY.
Tiny was a devoted mother to Leonard Jobe and Shonia Lyles. She was a beloved grandmother to Christian, Jenna, Janelle, Darryl, Jenea, and Jalynn and a proud great-grandmother to Khloe and Sebastian. In addition, she was a dedicated aunt to Aziza and Akil Hankins, whom she raised, as well as her other nieces and nephews, all of whom will never forget the care she gave.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel St. Benedicta Church, 1265 Castleton Avenue, SI, NY, on Saturday, August 24th, at 10:00 a.m.
