Obituary of Matilde Velez

Matilde Velez, age 57, passed away on May 13, 2018. She was the beloved daughter of Antonio Sr., and Cecelia Velez; dear sister of Antonio Velez, Jr., and Pauline Velez-Romano and her husband, Joseph; fond Godmother of Peter Romano; precious niece of Ralph and Pat Vagnoni; beloved foster Mother of Edwardo Acosta. Matilde was born in Astoria, and raised in Staten Island. She was a graduate of Port Richmond High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree from The College of Staten Island. She was employed for many years as a Senior Lab Technician at NYU Medical Center. Some of her hobbies included going to the movies and being an animal lover. She also loved the Christmas season and all the festivities of that time of year. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her memory be made to the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center (307 West Broadway, NY, NY 10013). Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., on Friday, departing at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10 am. Committal to follow at Rosehill Crematory. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
