Obituary of Judith Eileen Hearne

Judith (Murnane) Hearne Judith (Judy) was born in 1940 on Staten Island, New York and passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024 in McLean, Virginia in the presence of her children. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Frances Murnane, and the wife of the late Francis P. G. Hearne, also a native of Staten Island. Judy is a graduate of Notre Dame Academy (1957) and St. Francis University (1961), where she earned a BA in Sociology. She married Frank, her devoted husband and a U.S. Foreign Service Officer, in 1963. They traveled the world with tours of duty in Africa, Europe, and Asia where Judy cared for the family and often volunteered in various capacities to help the embassy community and those in need in the local community. New York was always their home and they managed to be posted twice to the New York area in the 1970s and again in the 1980s. They ended up settling in Matawan, New Jersey. After raising her own children, Judy went on to share her heart working as a social worker at Mount Loretto and later for Victim Services of Staten Island. After retiring, she eventually moved to Virginia to be closer to family. She is survived by her two sons, Timothy (Gretchen) and Steven (Kelley); her daughter, Nancy; her six grandchildren, Frankie, Erin, Veronica, Nick, Katie and Ryan; her sister Joanne Marsh and her brother William Murnane (Dana). Visitation will be at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd., Staten Island on Monday, October 14 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 15 at St. Peter's Church, 53 St. Marks Place, Staten Island with burial at St. Peter's Cemetery.
