Obituary of Teresa Claudio

Teresa Gonzalez Claudio (1928 – 2024)

Teresa Gonzalez Claudio, beloved mother to Athena Claudio and Melissa Claudio, of Staten Island, NY, passed away at home peacefully, leaving a huge void her family cannot fill. She was the matriarch and family cook where family gathered to celebrate the holidays in past years.

Teresa was born in Catano, Puerto Rico, 1928 and welcomed by her parents Enrique and Teresa Sarriera. She was the last surviving sibling of five. Even though she was the youngest among her siblings, she was strong-willed and overcame a multitude of challenges through the years because of her faith and love of family. Teresa attended elementary and part of junior high school in San Juan, Puerto Rico, before her eldest deceased sister Maria Bertran made the decision to leave Puerto Rico and travel to New York City at the age of fourteen. She worked hard and achieved her high school GED. Our mother studied and worked hard to complete her high school education knowing little English.

Teresa was a devoted mother to Athena and Melissa, her greatest achievement, pride and joy. She always said their birth changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love and support she provided.

Post completing high school, she married Paul Claudio who she met at a social dance through friends, and it was love at first sight. She loved her family, especially nieces and nephews.

Teresa Claudio was predeceased in death by Dolores Vallorani, Raymond Gonzalez, Jose Pepin Gonzalez and Maria Bertran, and survived by her two daughters, who will never forget the love and joy she brought to their lives.

The viewing will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Catholic funeral service to begin at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, we appreciate and request donations to American Cancer Society on behalf of Teresa.
