Obituary of Peter J. Marino

Peter J. Marino (aka Pistol Pete) age 80, passed away on May 23, 2018 in Staten Island, N.Y.. He was the loving father to his only daughter Elena Maria, and cherished grandfather of Melanie and Anthony Beam Jr.; beloved son of the late Leonard Marino and Helen (Proto) Marino. He was the dear brother of the late Nicholas Marino and also the late Frances (Trenticosti) Marino. He was loved by his nephews Leonard and Salvatore Marino as well as his niece Elaine (Marino) Tollevsen. Peter was born in Brooklyn, New York. As a youngster and young man, Peter was an enthusiastic and passionate Brooklyn Dodger fan who went to many great games at the famed Ebbits field. He was sitting in the stands when Bobby Thompson hit "The shot heard around the world". Later, he played for the great Lafayette High School teams and became a well known and successful manager on the Brooklyn sandlots who had many players sign professional contracts. He was greatly loved by his players as he led them with toughness and love. Peter worked for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He worked in the Engineering department. He had many friends at his job who loved him and were sad to see him retire after 37 years. After his retirement he did what he loved most, spending time with his family. He loved taking his grandchildren to play baseball in the park amongst many other things he did with them. He also loved the beach, singing, playing his keyboard, collecting baseball cards and cooking. He was an exceptional son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and teacher. Our family could not have been more blessed to have such a loving and strong man in our lives. Peter will be missed and forever in our hearts. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, departing at 9:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 9:30 am. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
