October 16, 1947 – December 25, 2024, Age 77
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paul John Rinaldi on December 25, 2024, at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Paul was a lifelong resident of Dongan Hills, Staten Island, and a beloved father, grandfather, and friend.
Born in Queens, New York on October 16, 1947, Paul graduated from Pace College and enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as an accountant with the Internal Revenue Service for 36 years. After retiring from the IRS, Paul continued to share his expertise through his own private practice, providing guidance and support to his clients for many years.
A man of many passions, Paul led a full and vibrant life. Paul was a long time parishioner at St. Ann's. He was known for his love of music, especially doo-wop, and attended countless concerts, including the legendary Woodstock in 1994. Paul was an active member of the Staten Island Ice Skating Club and enjoyed running, having completed 9 marathons during his life. He was a dedicated New York Rangers fan, attending many games and cherishing the camaraderie of fellow fans. In addition, Paul had an insatiable appetite for reading, particularly biographies, and always found joy in learning about the lives of others.
Paul was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Kathryn A. Rinaldi (née Cahalane), in 2018, as well as his brother Michael Rinaldi and his sister Ella Fenimore. He was also predeceased by his sons-in-law, Mark Franco, Carlo Comella, and Brian Sean Campbell. Paul is survived by his children, John Rinaldi, Elizabeth Franco, Debbie (Benjamin) DiDino, and Kathleen Campbell, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Gabriella Franco, Miranda Franco, Brian Charles Campbell, and Joseph DiDino. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Matthews Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Ann Church, 101 Cromwell Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10304, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10309.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Paul's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.
Paul will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the countless lives he touched. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
