Obituary of Lilly Salvesen
Lilly (Norling) Salvesen, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, in Redbank, NJ, at the age of 93. Born on August 5, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, Lilly was a woman whose life reflected her selfless nature and unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
Lilly graduated from Bay Ridge High School in 1949 with honors as the class Salutarian.
She married George Salvesen in 1952 and had 4 children, Karen (1953), Paul (1955), George (1958) and Gary (1962). Lilly dedicated her life to the loving care of her family as a devoted homemaker for the next 25 years. She has 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She went to work in 1978 at Maimonides Medical Center. Her organizational skills and attention to detail served her well in her role as a file clerk, where she was respected for her professionalism and cherished for her kindness and warmth. She retired after 20 years.
Her love for the outdoors and the water was evident to all who knew her. Each summer she spent a month sleeping in a tent at Lake Welch, camping with her 4 children and their cousins.
She served as the President of the Ladies group at the Yacht Club in 1963. Those who knew Lilly would describe her as the epitome of loving, generous, and selfless.
Lilly's life was a journey of joy, service, and unwavering dedication to the ones she loved. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Lilly's passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
She will be waked at Matthew Funeral Home 2508 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, NY on January 7th from 2:00-4:30pm and 6:00- 8:00pm
