Obituary of Phil Basa Jr.

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Phil Basa Jr. passed away on January 5th at Richmond University Medical Center at the age of 78, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Monette Basa (née Leonen), and their children, Amber Basa and Elijah Samuel Basa, as well as Nora Basa (née Mallari) and their children, Elaine Basa-Collins, Brian Basa, and Amanda Basa. He also leaves behind his son-in-law, Robert Collins, and granddaughters, Madelyn Collins and Jane Collins. Phil’s loyal dog, Milo, who brought him endless joy and companionship, also survives him.

In addition, he is survived by his siblings, Milet Cariño, Nerissa Ferrara, Barnabe (Dave) Basa, and his twin, Segundo Basa. He was predeceased by his brother, Honesto (Raffy) Basa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Phil was born on June 4, 1946, in Santa Ana, Pampanga, Philippines, to Filemon Basa Sr. and Carlita Garcia. He studied at the University of the East in Manila before immigrating to America in 1971. He later obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Baruch College and began his career as a CPA. After many years of serving his community, he retired in 2003.

Phil was known to all for his love of military movies, his passion for watching Jeopardy!, and his voracious appetite for reading. He loved nothing more than sitting at the dinner table with his family. Phil also enjoyed watching football, swimming, and recording funny videos with his loved ones. He was a humble man whose greatest joy was being with his loved ones. He texted his family every night to wish them goodnight and tell them he loved them.

He had a heart-melting smile and an unforgettable laugh. Phil will be forever loved and dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.
