Obituary of Michael W. Zawada

Michael W. Zawada, age 99, passed away on June 24, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie(nee Lisk). He was the loving father of Marianne Gosselin and her husband Steve and the late Michael Zawada Jr. He was the cherished grandfather of Andrew and Amy Louise Gosselin and Lisa Arguelles. He was the dear great grandfather of Adrianna. He was the fond brother of Frank Zawada and Irene Zawada – Bilcher. He was predeceased by his brothers Ben, Al and Louie Zawada and his sister Sally Zawada. Michael was a life-long Staten Islander who resided in Elm Park. He went to McKey High School and was the first commencement class in 1937. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp. Michael had various jobs and found his future as a machinist at Proctor and Gamble. He was dedicated to his community and volunteered as an usher in Holy Family Church. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, traveling, bowling, gardening and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Michael was a very selfless and helpful man who will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Staten Island Zoo in Michael's Memory. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, departing at 9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:00 AM. An interment will follow in Ocean View Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
