John Olaf Myhre, age 74, of Great Kills, passed away with his loving family by his side on June 28, 2018.  He was the beloved husband of Michelle (nee Veltri); loving father of Catherine Grillo and her husband, John, Gerilyn Aiello and her husband, Dominic, and Patricia Bye and her husband, Steven; loving stepfather of Adam Galka and Jaime Munch and her husband, Kris; cherished grandfather of Anthony, Christina, Johnny, Dominic Jr., Julianna, Bridget, Angelina, Spencer, Francesca, Olivia, and Addie; devoted great-grandfather of Maddy and Olivia; dear brother of Linda Scivoletto and her husband, Frank, and the late Theresa Fasolino.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

John was born in Brooklyn in 1943, and was raised in Bay Ridge.  He was a graduate of Grady High School and after high school he enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy.  John served in the special forces as a Navy Seal and was involved in The Bay of Pigs Invasion during the Cuba Missile Crisis.  He was employed for 20 years with the MTA as a Bus Mechanic, retiring in 1994.  After his retirement, he worked as a Bus Driver with Atlantic Express, thoroughly enjoying his time with special needs children.  He adored those kids and they adored him.  John was a member of the Islander’s and the Low Rider’s Motorcycle Club, where he enjoyed riding his Harley, and also enjoyed taking cruises and gambling.
