Obituary of John "Mickey" Coughlin

Mickey Coughlin, a longtime auto mechanic and maintenance worker at Clove Lake Nursing Home, passed away July 16, 2018. Mickey was born and raised on Staten Island and loved the New York Yankees. Mickey was a kind hearted friend to everyone and thought of the residents of Clove Lake Nursing Home as his personal responsibility. He not only kept their living areas in great condition, but also saw to their personal requests and brought flowers to those residents without visitors on holidays. Mickey's gruff personality tried to hide the big heart underneath, but his actions always let his kindness and compassion shine through. Mickey is survived by his mother, Anne Coughlin, who was the most important person in his life. He is also survived by eight brothers and sisters: Judith O'Donnell, Kathleen Coughlin, Edward Coughlin, Martin Coughlin, James Coughlin, and Pat Coughlin of Staten Island, Donna Czekay of New Jersey, and Dorothy Carannante of Virginia. Mickey was also an uncle to several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd., Staten Island. Viewing will be today, Thursday, July 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 854 Targee St., Staten Island on Friday, July 20 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at Ocean View Cemetery, 3315 Amboy Road, Staten Island.
