Obituary of Muriel Benedicks

Muriel Benedicks (nee Hazel), age 89, passed away peacefully at Seaview Nursing Home on August 6, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late John (1993); loving mother of Judith DiFonzo, Catherine Lazzaro and her husband, Peter, Gregory Benedicks and his wife, Lisa, Matthew Benedicks and his companion Patricia, James Benedicks, Jeannine Sellitto, Jacqueline McLean and her husband, Daniel, the late John P. Benedicks, the late Kevin Benedicks, the late Christopher Benedicks and the late Patrick Benedicks; cherished grandmother of 17 and great-grandmother of 3; dear sister of George Hazel. Muriel was born in Brooklyn in 1929, and was raised in Sheepshead Bay. She graduated from the former Prospect Park High School for Homemaking. She relocated in the year 2000 to Staten Island, settling in Bulls Head. In her spare time she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, drinking tea, and food shopping with her "red cart," and watching Jeopardy. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday, departing at 9 am. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 9:30 am. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
