Obituary of Benedict M. Ciavolella, Jr.

Benedict Marco Ciavolella, 87, passed peacefully on August 17, 2018. He was born in the Bronx, NY and lived in Queens, Staten Island, NY and most recently, Freehold, NJ. He was a proud member of the IBofT Local 282, as his father before him, and retired as the Local's Recording Secretary in 1993. He was pre-deceased by his beloved bride of 64 years, Betty and survived by his adoring daughters, Gloria and her husband Ed Swanson, Nancy and her husband Bob Sessa; his loving grandchildren Kerry Patricia, Laurie Ann and her husband Chris Doherty, Edward Benedict Jr., Brittany Rose and Robert Francesco and his girlfriend Alie Carmena; his amazing great-grandchilden Meaghan Kathryn, Emilee Patricia and Aidan John. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Frances Sellet and Charlotte Ceretti and brothers, Carl and Paul and his wife Tonya, his loving sisters-in-law, Gloria Albanese and many loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Charlotte and Benedict and brothers Robert and Albert. He will surely be missed by his pooches, Jack and Leaping Louie. When you think of a gentleman, the true measure of a man, a gentle soul with the heart of a lion and class beyond comprehension, you will be remembering Ben. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, departing at 9 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's R.C. Church at 10 am. Interment to follow in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 pm.
