Obituary of Josefina Vega

Josefina Vega (nee Rodriguez) of Clifton, formerly of Sunset Park, passed away on August 31, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the beloved matriarch of fourteen descendants. She is survived by one sister, four children, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three son in-laws and will be reunited in heaven with her dearly departed son and husband. Josefina, or Cherri, as she was affectionately known, was born in Vieques, Puerto Rico in 1937. Her greatest joy in life was caring for others, and so, dedicated her life to raising her children and grandchildren. A talented cook, gardener, craftswoman, artist, and avid wrestling fan she passed on many skills and recipes to her family, along with boundless memories of love and laughs. Josefina lived her life with a great appreciation for nature and empathy for others. She will be remembered as a woman who was strong and proud, who would gladly lend a hand to others in need, and who embraced difference with a warm and open heart. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, 9/4 at 10:45 am. The funeral procession will depart at 11 am, bound for Rosehill Cemetery, Linden, NJ, where a graveside service is scheduled.
