Obituary of James A. Bigham
James Alexander Bigham, age 73, passed away on September 22, 2018, at the VA NY Harbor Health Care System. He was the devoted partner of Bernice Crockett, loving father of James Alexander Bigham, Jr. and Charles Joseph Bigham, cherished step-father to Nicole Wardlaw, beloved father-in-law to Nicole Bigham and Estefania Ponti, dear grandfather of Gavin Alexander Bigham, and a trusted friend to Ellen Bigham.
A lifelong New Yorker, Jim was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1945 and was raised in Queens before moving to Staten Island in the 1970s. He honorably served with the United States Army from 1968 to 1971 during the Vietnam War as a Second Lieutenant with the 14th Combat Engineer Battalion before starting his career at Prudential Securities as manager of systems and programming functions. Jim's skills and interests ranged far and wide, from reverse engineering recipes from his favorite restaurants to collecting antique tools to dominating the Scrabble board. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, friends, and pets. Jim left an impression on everyone he met, and was always someone you could turn to for help and advice. He will be missed more than words can express.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Matthew Funeral Home at 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim's name to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Humane Society of New York.
