Obituary of George J. Manassa
George J. Manassa, age 91, passed away on October 9, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Edna (nee Raya) for 64 years; loving father of Karen Manassa-Walstein (Jeff), Jodie Centineo (Joseph), and George (Linda); devoted grandfather of Nicole Keller (Mike), Jessica LaStella (Vincent), Kimberly Douglas (Greg), Jeffrey Walstein, Joseph Centineo (Fiance, Amanda MacGregor), George Manassa, and Greg Manassa; fond great-grandfather of Vincent and Carmine LaStella; dear brother of Edward Manassa (Norma) and Violet Ganim (late Donald).
Mr. Manassa was born in Manhattan in 1927, raised in downtown Brooklyn, and relocated to Staten Island in 1969, New Springville. After his graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy, being stationed in San Diego. George operated the G & D Television repair shop in Brooklyn for over 50 years. He was well known and loved in the neighborhood. Some of his hobbies included trips to the Borgata in Atlantic City, dancing, enjoying good food and family events. George was an avid Giants Football fan, who enjoyed tailgating and holding season tickets for around 40 years. He was also involved with the Silver Sneaker Group at the New York Sports Club. He was also a member of the Baron de Kalb Knights of Columbus in Sheepshead Bay, holding a fourth degree membership.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, departing at 9 am. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 9:30 am at Our Lady of Pity R. C. Church. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 10:00 pm.
