Obituary of Joyce Long

Josephine Joyce Long, age 73, passed away quietly and peacefully at the Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey on October 22, 2018. Josephine, known as Joyce to her friends and Nanny to her beloved grandchildren, was the devoted daughter of the late Samuel and Estelle Gotto. She was the beloved wife of Robert Long for 53 years, and the loving mother of her two sons: Robert Jr. and his wife Vincenza of Trumbull, CT and Mark and his wife Christy of Staten Island, NY. Joyce was also the dear grandmother of Katelyn, Robert, and Emily Long. She is also survived by her siblings Maria Mcghie, Sonia Pederson, and the late Louis Gotto. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Evelyn Silvestri, her brother-in-law Edward Long and the late James Long. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved her. Joyce will be remembered as a loving and tirelessly devoted caretaker of her family and for her strong yet warm presence in her children and grandchildren's lives. Over the years, Joyce attended countless sporting and music events, plays, dance recitals and graduations of her grandchildren - no matter whether the event took place close to home or in Connecticut. Joyce loved dearly her many faithful friends and neighbors and considered them family. Her thoughtfulness was famous, she never missed an occasion to send a handwritten note or card from the heart. She was grateful for the care she received from her physicians, the staff at Community Medical Center and rehabilitation facility. Friends may greet the family at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Matthew Funeral Home at 12:00 PM. Immediately following the Catholic blessing, all are invited to attend a reception to celebrate Joyce's life.
