Obituary of Thomas McCarthy

Thomas McCarthy, age 56, passed away suddenly on November 4, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Frances (nee DiMarco) for 23 years; loving father of Kerri and Matthew McCarthy; dear brother of Edward McCarthy and the late Dennis McCarthy; fond brother-in-law of Monica McCarthy, Vincent and Jacqueline DiMarco, Rosaria DiMarco; devoted uncle of Daniel, Andrew and Sarah McCarthy; loving great-uncle of Henry, Miles and Clara McCarthy. He was the son of the late Edna and Edward S. McCarthy. Thomas was born on Staten Island in 1962, and raised in the West New Brighton neighborhood. He was a graduate of St. Peter's Boys High School and furthered his education at the College of Staten Island. Thomas was a volunteer EMT for the North Shore Rescue Squad and became a Police Officer in 1984 and retired in 2004. His last assignment on the NYPD was Highway 5, Staten Island. Mr. McCarthy remained a volunteer EMT with North Shore Rescue Squad and Metropolitan Fire Company. In addition to this, Thomas also was an EMT Instructor at SI EMT. He also worked for the Immanuel Union Church as a Sexton and a private security officer for the Jewish Temple. Thomas was a Scout Leader with Troop 2 for his son and helped him become an Eagle Scout. His main passion was his family, especially his children. In addition to flowers, you may also send donations to the North Shore Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 140702, Staten Island, NY 10314. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Wednesday, departing at 9:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church at 10 am. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 10:00 pm.
