Obituary of Emily Harkins – Cuevas

Emily Harkins-Cuevas (82) of Iselin, NJ passed away Nov. 5, 2017 at home after a short battle with cancer. Born Nov. 27, 1934 to Edward & Emily Henry she was raised in Port Richmond attended PS 21 & Port Richmond High School. Emily married Herbert Harkins in 1954 and they raised 4 children together until his passing in 1984. In 1989 she moved to Iselin, NJ and married Peter Cuevas who also passed away in 2011. Emily worked for 30 years for NYC board of education as a cook in PRHS cafeteria. In her younger family times, she enjoyed volunteering in various PTA’s, WSLL, Teaching CCD and going to bingo. As her children grew involved in Scouting so did she, serving on several SI Scouting Council committees and obtaining many awards including the Silver Beaver the highest adult award given in Scouting. She also was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. After her retirement Emily volunteered with the SI Alzheimer’s Association for many years. Emily also liked to travel and was very proud to have visited 48 of the 50 states in our country. Emily Adored her family and is survived by her children, Edward Harkins, Thomas Harkins (Cheryl), James Harkins (Donna) & Kathleen Harkins, a sister Elizabeth (Betty) Schenk, also 11 Grandchildren & 1 Great Granddaughter.
